United Airlines CEO: “Fuel Costs Have Doubled”

Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines, stated that the sharp rise in jet fuel prices in recent weeks is placing significant pressure on the aviation industry. According to the assessment, jet fuel prices have more than doubled over the past three weeks.

Kirby said that if current price levels persist, the company’s annual fuel expenses could increase by approximately $11 billion. Highlighting the scale of this figure, he noted that even in United Airlines’ most profitable year in history, the company generated less than $5 billion in profit.

Rising costs are said to pose a serious threat to airlines’ operational profitability, and industry-wide adjustments to ticket pricing and capacity planning may soon be introduced.
